Saturday night in Prince Albert, the Moose Jaw Warriors battled hard against the Raiders but came up just short falling 4-3 to the East Division leaders.
Prince Albert came out hard to start the game, they used their speed and physical play to keep the Warriors pinned inside their zone.
Four and a half minutes into the game, Dante Hannoun set up Cole Fonstad between the Warriors circles where he scored the game’s first goal.
Moose Jaw picked up a power play late in the frame and they were able to capitalize.
Justin Almeida took a shot from inside the left circle, the puck ricocheted to Josh Brook at the bottom of the right circle where he took a quick slapshot that beat Ian Scott short side, and his 10th goal of the year tied the game at one.
The battles continued in the second period as both teams played a physical game to keep the quality scoring chances down.
Getting to the five-minute mark of the frame, Raiders Captain Brayden Pachal took a shot from the right Warriors blueline, Sean Montgomery was able to deflect it past Brodan Salmond to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead.
Moose Jaw was able to tie the game at 15:31 while working on the power play.
Josh Brook broke up a Raider clearing attempt at the right line to keep the Warriors on the attack. Brook eventually took a shot that went off the right pad of Ian Scott and right to Brayden Tracey on the left side of the crease where he lifted in his 23rd of the season to tie the game at two.
33 seconds later the Raiders were back inside the Moose Jaw zone. With plenty of traffic in front of the Warriors net, Kaiden Guhle took a shot that found the back of the net to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead.
Down a goal for the majority of the third period, the Warriors picked up back-to-back power plays.
They had just over a minute to work on a two-man advantage but were unable to punch the puck in. With seven seconds left on the 5-on-4, the puck came to Justin Almeida at the bottom of the left circle where he put in his 20th to tie the game at three.
Unfortunately, the Raiders pushed right back and just under two minutes later they set up Brett Leason for a shot from the right circle, the puck trickled just over the goal line to give Prince Albert the lead.
Moose Jaw outshot the Raiders 15-11 in the third period and fought hard for an equalizer but they came up short and lost 4-3.
Brayden Tracey, Justin Almeida, and Josh Brook had a goal and two points each, Jett Woo picked up three assists, and Brodan Salmond made 31 saves.
Moose Jaw was 3-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Warriors are now off until next week when they hit the road for four games in five days. Wednesday they’ll head up to Saskatoon and then on the weekend they’ll venture to Alberta for games in Lethbridge, Red Deer, and Calgary.
