Warriors set for two-game set in Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB — The Moose Jaw Warriors’ big week continues with two showdowns against the Canadian Hockey League’s top ranked team.
Moose Jaw will square off against the Winnipeg ICE on Saturday and Sunday at the Wayne Fleming Arena.
The Warriors are coming off two big wins against Saskatoon to start the week, collecting four important points in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
“It’s huge, you look at the standings, we’re tied with them in points now, but we’ve got the edge in the season series, so that definitely feels good and it’s good to start the week off right,” Warriors forward Atley Calvert said.
Calvert picked up two goals and four points in Wednesday’s overtime win in Saskatoon, giving a team-high 25 goals this season and 100 points in his WHL career.
The Moose Jaw product said his success this season comes from the team.
“It’s an accumulation of our whole group, we work together as a group and when you work together as a group, you achieve more,” he said.
Calvert leads the Warriors into Winnipeg this weekend for two big showdowns.
The Warriors are 2-0 against Winnipeg so far this season with both victories coming in Moose Jaw.
Heading into Winnipeg is a different story for the Warriors, who have yet to beat the ICE at the Wayne Fleming Arena since the team moved from Cranbrook.
“It’s a fresh start this year,” Calvert said. “We’re ready for the challenge.”
The ICE sit first in the Eastern Conference, five points ahead of the Warriors.
Calvert said the Warriors will have to match the ICE’s pace to find success.
“They’re a fast team, we’re going to have to play structured and limit their chances off the rush,” he said.
The Warriors and ICE face-off on Saturday night at 8 p.m. CST and then have a rematch on Sunday at 5 p.m. CST.
