Woo & Burzan crack Canada’s roster
Moose Jaw Warriors defenseman Jett Woo and forward Luka Burzan have been named to Hockey Canada’s 22-man roster for the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup August 7-12 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Bratislava, Slovakia.
Woo was selected by the Warriors 4th overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft and in his rookie season last year in Moose Jaw he had five goals, 17 assists, and 22 points in 65 games and was third in scoring among Warrior defencemen. At Hockey Canada’s Under-18 Selection Camp Woo had one goal in three games. This will mark the second time this year that Woo will play internationally for Canada, earlier this year he was a member of Team Canada at the 2017 IIHF Under-18 World Championships.
Burzan was selected by the Warriors 6th overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft and in his first season last year in Moose Jaw he had 14 goals, 13 assists, and 27 points in 66 games to lead all Warrior rookies in scoring. At Hockey Canada’s Under-18 Selection Camp Burzan led all players with three goals and was tied for first in scoring with four points in three games.
Woo and Burzan both took part in the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and both were apart of Canada’s 2016 Youth Olympic Games team that captured silver. Burzan was the top scorer at the Youth Olympic Games with four goals and seven points in six games while Woo was a steady presence of Canada’s blueline.
Canada will head overseas immediately to prepare for the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, they will take on the Czech Republic Saturday in a pre-tournament game before opening the preliminary round Monday, August 7 against Russia.
Canada has won gold 20 times in 25 years of the summer under-18 competition.
