Warriors Fallo 2-1 in Shootout to Rebels

Moose Jaw’s current road trip continued Saturday night with a 2-1 shootout loss in Red Deer.

The teams combined for 19 shots in the opening frame but neither was able to slide one past the goal line thanks to the solid play of goalies Daniel Wapple and Patrik Bartosak.

Moose Jaw had a steady stream off opportunities in the second as they outshot the Rebels 20-10 in the frame; they were finally able to beat Bartosak at 16:09 when Brandon Potomak fed Justin Kirsch between the circles for his 10th of the year.

Up 1-0 to start the third the Warriors took a penalty and the Rebels were able to capitalize with a Matt Dumba goal at 4:23.  The teams went back and forth the rest of regulation but neither was able to score the game winner, overtime didn’t produce a winner either which propelled the game into a shootout.

In the opening round Justin Kirsch missed the net while Rhyse Dieno was able to score; in the second round Brayden Point was able to score while Matt Bellerive was denied; in the third round Sam Fioretti and Brady Gaudet were both turned away; in the final round Morgan Rielly was stopped by Bartosak while Conner Bleackley was able to score to give Red Deer the win.

Moose Jaw outshot the Rebels 43-29 and went 0-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill; Wapple made 27 saves in the loss while Bartosak made 42 in the win.

The Warriors record is now 8-11-3-4; they’ll travel Sunday to the west coast, eventually landing in Victoria.  They’ll take Monday off to get ready for Tuesday’s battle against the Victoria Royals, catch the action with James Gallo starting with the PreGame Show at 8:40pm on Country 100.
