Warriors & Broncos Battle In Pre-Season Tilt

The Moose Jaw Warriors pre-season schedule continues tonight with a trip to Maple Creek to take on the Swift Current Broncos in the first game of a weekend home and home series.

The Tribe has been idle since their rookie game against the Broncos on August 28th at Mosaic Place, that night 2012 2nd round bantam pick Zachary Sawchenko made 30 saves, leading the Warriors to a 3-1 win.  Ben Duperreault had a goal and two points for Moose Jaw; Ethan Williams and Colton McCarthy had one goal each; Brayden Point picked up two assists; Logan Hermus and Tyler Brown had one assist each; Glenn Gawdin scored the lone Swift Current goal; Moose Jaw was 1-for-9 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Broncos has played two more exhibition games since then as they took part in the annual tournament in Edmonton over the Labour Day long weekend, they beat the Oil Kings 8-2 and lost 5-1 to Calgary.  Coda Gordon and Tanner LeSann are Swift Current’s pre-season scoring leaders with four points each, Gordon has two goals and two assists while LeSann has a goal and three helpers.  Brycen Martin and Dakota Odgers have three points each, Ryon Moser and Eric Walker have two points each, and seven Broncos have registered at least one point.

After tonight’s game the two teams will close out this weekend series Sunday, 2pm at Mosaic Place.  Moose Jaw finishes their pre-season schedule with a home and home series against Brandon September 14th and 15th, which will also mark the return of Warriors Hockey on Country 100.  The Warriors and Broncos will once again lock horns on the 21st and 22nd when they open the regular season, the first game is Friday night in Moose Jaw and will include the raising of the teams 2012 East Division championship banner.
