The Moose Jaw Warriors exploded for five goals in the third period on Tuesday to come from behind and beat the Kelowna Rockets 6-3 at Mosaic Place.

Despite missing a number of key players to Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp, the Warriors and Rockets established a quick pace in the opening period as the moved up and down the ice in a hurry.

Kelowna took a 1-0 lead at 14:54 when they set up Carsen Twarynski for a shot just inside the right circle that he snapped over the blocker of Brody Willms.

Moose Jaw responded at 18:54 when Josh Brook moved the puck quickly to Brayden Burke in the neutral zone.  Burke skated inside the Rockets left circle then dropped the puck to Tanner Jeannot whose quick shot beat Roman Basran for his 23rd of the season.

The quick pace continued in the second period as the teams once again used their speed to come up the ice on the attack.

The teams exchanged a number of scoring opportunities throughout the period but it was bad luck for the Warriors that gave the Rockets the lead at 18:12 when a shot from Will Kushniryk ricocheted off a defenseman skate and over the goal line.

Kelowna went up by two 42 seconds later when a Warriors defenseman was too aggressive at their blueline and his missed check turned in to a Rockets odd-man rush and turned in to a goal from Kyle Topping.

After killing off an early Kelowna power play in the third period the Warriors offense came alive.

At 4:51 Tristin Langan muscled his way down the Kelowna boards and the pushed his way towards the net.  A loose puck came to Jayden Halbgewachs who lifted in his team leading 33rd goal of the season which extended his point streak to 19 games.

44 seconds later Tanner Jeannot, Justin Almeida, and Brayden Burke had the Rockets pinned.  They moved the puck from the right wall to the goal line and then cross ice to the left crease where Almeida scored his 17th of the year to tie the game at three.

With just under eight minutes later Barrett Sheen, Vince Loschiavo, and Branden Klatt were working hard along the Rockets boards.  Sheen came out of the left corner and found Loschiavo on the bottom of the circle where he scored his first as a Warriors to give Moose Jaw a 4-3 lead.

Four minutes later at 15:38 Josh Brook let a shot go from the right point that Tanner Jeannot deflected for his second of the game.  Justin Almeida added an empty net goal in the final minute to add to the Warriors total.

Jeannot finished with two goals and three points, Almeida had two goals, Brayden Burke snagged three assists, Josh Brook picked up to assists, new forward Ryan Peckford got one assist, and Brody Willms made 27 saves.

Moose Jaw outshot Kelowna 15-6 in the third and 40-30 overall, they were 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The win was the Warriors 6th straight and it extended their point streak to 12 games.

The Warriors are now off until the weekend when they’ll wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule with home games against Kamloops on Friday and Brandon on Saturday.  Tickets are available online at or at the Mosaic Place Box Office.
