The Moose Jaw Warriors picked up their 24th road win last night setting a new single-season franchise record for road wins as they downed the Swift Current Broncos 6-1 at the Credit Union IPlex.

Space was tight throughout the first period as the teams were able to break-up plays which limited the quality scoring chances.

On the penalty kill with under nine minutes left in the period, Justin Almeida intercepted a Swift Current pass along the Warriors blueline.  Almeida raced up the ice on a shorthanded breakaway and put the puck between the legs of goalie Riley Lamb, his 31st of the year game Moose Jaw a 1-0 lead.

Swift Current started the second period on the power-play but wasn’t able to generate much offence.

Shortly after the Warriors got back to even-strength, Yegor Buyalski led an odd-man rush up the ice and passed the puck to Carson Denomie driving the net where he scored his 7th of the season.

Under four minutes later at 6:19, Josh Brook had the puck at the Broncos right line and made a cross-ice pass to Justin Almeida inside the left circle.  Almeida found a seam to make a pass to Keenan Taphorn on the right side of the Bronco net where he directed in his 15th of the season.

Moose Jaw picked up a number of power-plays in the back of the second period, and with under six minutes left in the period, Keenan Taphorn deflected a shot past Riley Lamb, his second of the game gave Moose Jaw a 4-0 lead.

Back on the penalty kill in the first four minutes of the third period, the Broncos lead pass from below their goal line went off of the skate of Daniil Stepanov and snuck over the Broncos line to give Moose Jaw a 5-0 lead.

Swift Current broke up Adam Evanoff’s shutout with a power-play goal from Connor Horning at 9:40, but the Warriors responded 37 seconds later with a goal from Josh Brook to put the game out of reach.

Justin Almeida led the Warriors with one goal and four points, Keenan Taphorn finished with two goals, Daniil Stepanov and Josh Brook had a goal and two points each, and Adam Evanoff made 23 saves.

The Warriors close out the 2018-2019 regular season Saturday with a rematch against the Broncos.  The team is asking fans to be at the game early as they’ll hold their YARA Awards Night before the game.  Tickets are available at www.mjwarriors.ca.
