Sukunda Signs; Warriors acquire Bowman

Defenseman Alek Sukunda (2001) has committed to the Warriors and the Western Hockey League with the signing of a standard player agreement.

Sukunda, 6’1, 192lbs, was taken in the 6th round, 122nd overall.  He played last season with the Vancouver NW Giant (BCMMHL) and had 5 goals, 10 assists, 15 points, and 53 penalty minutes in 36 games.

“We are very pleased that Alek and his family have chosen the Warriors and the WHL as he pursues his hockey and academic goals.  Alek is a solid, hard player who brings a good skill set and competes very hard,” General Manager Alan Millar.

General Manager Alan Millar also announced a trade that saw the team acquire forward Nick Bowman (2000) and a 6th round pick in 2018 from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for forward Vince Loschiavo (1998).

Bowman, 6’0”, 185lbs, is from Sherwood Park, Alberta and was originally drafted by Edmonton in the 6th round of the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.  In 56 games last season with the Oil Kings he had six goals, six assists, and 12 points.  In 117 WHL games he has 13 goals, 13 assists, and 26 points.

“First off, I’d like to thank Vince Loschiavo for his time as a Warrior and wish him the best in his 20-year-old season with the Oil Kings,” said Millar.  “Nick Bowman is a solid, honest, smart player who had a good year in the league as a 16-year-old and we believe he’ll benefit from a new opportunity with our hockey club.”
