78 CHL players selected in 2018 NHL Draft

Dallas, Texas – The Canadian Hockey League is proud to announce 78 CHL players have been selected during the 2018 NHL Draft, which concluded today at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

In total, 13 of 31 first-round selections developed this season in the CHL.

Since the 1967 NHL Amateur Draft, a total of 2,020 players have been selected out of the WHL.

Friday evening, two WHL players were selected in the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft, including defencemen Ty Smith of the Spokane Chiefs (17th overall, New Jersey Devils) and Alexander Alexeyev of the Red Deer Rebels (31st overall, Washington Capitals).

Saturday began with Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Jett Woo being selected 37th overall by the Vancouver Canucks.

Swift Current Broncos goaltender Joel Hofer became the first WHL goaltender selected in the 2018 NHL Draft when the St. Louis Blues called his name in the fourth round (107th).

Among WHL Clubs, the Everett Silvertips and Vancouver Giants led the way, with each having three players selected in the 2018 NHL Draft. The Calgary Hitmen, Moose Jaw Warriors, Red Deer Rebels and Spokane Chiefs each saw two players selected.
